It's never too soon to start planning

Why is good financial planning so important?

Marc-Olivier Aebischer, the head of BCV’s financial planning service, explains why a little foresight now can make a big difference later.

  • Who are BCV’s financial planning services for?
  • What’s the point of financial planning?
  • How can it give me a more secure future?
  • How does BCV provide financial planning services?

Who are BCV’s financial planning services for?

These services are meant for all of our Swiss-based private-banking clients. Every client has their own wealth-related concerns and requires personalized advice. Effective financial planning starts with an assessment of your family situation and financial position and takes into account your life goals and how they will affect your wealth over time.

We look at financial planning from two angles:

1. Building your savings: This approach is used for clients who wish to assess the feasibility of their long-term goals and plans by drawing on our expertise in specific areas (investments, pensions, taxation, inheritance, and business succession).

2. Retirement planning: This approach is for people who want visibility on how their financial situation will change from when they stop working until late in their retirement, without losing sight of their goals for that period of time.

What’s the point of financial planning? How can it give me a more secure future?

We aim to bring visibility to our clients through our financial planning services, so that they can make fully informed decisions.

Developing a plan to build up your savings is a broad challenge that raises a number of important questions:

  • Is my marriage contract the best one for my financial situation?
  • Can I take on a personal project without eating too much into future income?
  • What can I do to optimize my taxes?
  • How can I protect my loved ones from unexpected risks?

Retirement planning is more specific. As soon as we know about an event that will affect your finances, we can measure the extent to which it will impact your portfolio. We’ll address questions such as:

  • Can I retire early?
  • Should I cash out all or part of my occupational pension savings?
  • Would it be better to receive regular pension payments? How will voluntary contributions to my pension fund affect my pension benefits later on?
  • Do I need to pay down my mortgage debt when I retire?

How does BCV provide financial planning services?

Your private banking advisor will be your point person at BCV. They will put you in touch with a financial planning specialist, who will work with you and your advisor to lay the groundwork for your financial plan. This specialist will use the information and documents we have about you to prepare a custom analysis. They’ll present you with the results of that analysis along with their observations and suggestions. We also suggest you update your financial plan every three to five years.

The best way to make the most of your options is by planning ahead. How will you afford all those things you want to do in life? Are you paying too much in the way of taxes? How can you protect yourself and your family against what life might throw at you? How can you maintain your desired standard of living after retiring?

Get answers to these questions and more. Your BCV advisor may recommend financial planning, tax advisory services, retirement planning and/or a review of your personal insurance.

Securing your future

If you are looking to cut your tax bill – especially if you face decisions with major tax implications – speak to your BCV advisor. Your advisor will propose solutions tailored to your personal circumstances and financial situation.

Building a nest egg

You may want to save money now for retirement, future travel plans, hobbies, or simply for a rainy day. Or you may want to build up savings to pass on to your children or help a family member in need. Whatever your goals, our wealth management advisors can help you manage your day-to-day finances, start putting money aside, plan for retirement, buy property and make informed investment decisions. Naturally, their advice will take into account your tax and inheritance concerns.

Protecting your family

It's never too early to start protecting your family from financial hardship and creating a financial cushion to shield them from life’s nasty surprises. Consider reviewing your pension, disability and life insurance coverage with the help of your BCV advisor, who will propose solutions tailored to your personal needs.

Planning for retirement

Retiring is a big step, and it needs to be planned well – and well ahead. Not only does it mark a major change in your lifestyle, it also has a big impact on your family and financial situation. Once you’ve turned 50, it is important to re-assess your retirement savings and shore them up if necessary. Your BCV advisor can help you with this.
